Everywhere else feels like it’s snowy, slushy and bone-chilling cold.
It’s January.
But it’s not really January in Silvia’s corner of the world.
Traveler’s Rest is an oasis from the winter blues. Today, it’s 55 degrees and clear as day. Instead of waking up with cold toes and grey slush outside, staying in Silvia during winter is a soft, toasty awakening. Picture it.
Peek out from under the handmade quilts and open your eyes to the bright mountain sun behind the curtains. Brew yourself a cup of dark roast and look out over the pony pen as you stir in the cream.
Step outside into the crisp upstate morning. Bring a blanket with you to sit on the patio and watch the ridges in the distance seep into the sunlight. Sip your coffee and flick on our outdoor heater to help along the January air.
There are worse places to spend winter.
With Silvia, we’ve taken every step possible to ensure you’ll be comfortable no matter what season. Stepping away from the hubbub of normal life doesn’t have to wait until June.
There’s so much to do in the cooler months around Traveler’s Rest. Here are some ideas:
- At midday, take your yoga mat outside and greet the cooler air with a steady vinyasa.
- Brew some decaf in the evening and sit around the outdoor heat lamp. Compare your favorite books and movies with your companions.
- Throw on a sweater and spend time brushing the ponies in the sunny pasture.
- Take a 20-minute drive to Campbell’s Covered bridge, the only remaining covered bridge in the state, and hike the ridge as it blooms with winter flowers.
- Take a leisurely walk around the basin at Paris Mountain. Pop out into the sun over the water and pack a picnic.
- Pour a glass of wine and sit on the bridge that crosses our creek to watch the sunset.
- Drive into Greenville and join other revelers at Falls Park on the Reedy. Bring your hammock and find a spot to read between the trees.
- Warm up with a slice of pizza at Sidewall Pizza on Main Street. You won’t regret the “Greenville Goddess,” which has chopped bacon, artichoke hearts, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, and goat cheese.
